"Freezing memories" explores the imaginary of everyday life through water. We used objects that have been relevant in different life phases such as musical objects, games, music or even family photos and a natural resource (water).
This project has been a complex one, both in the conceptual part and later in the execution. Once the idea was focused on the challenge of how to express the desire to freeze a moment, the impossibility of such a feat and finally, the mark left of the memory. The resource of ice seemed the most suitable, the very idea of freezing in its purest state and then, the mark that the ice would leave when thawed.
The selection of the objects was based on the significant moments we had with those objects or the moments they took us to. The frog was one of our favourite toys. The picture of the parents honours the love we have for them. Carnations are our favourite flower. The CD represents technology. The harmonica is a tribute to our adolescence, where we cultivated our passion for art and evolved as a person. Finally, the money represents adulthood.
The execution of the work begins with the thawing of these objects. Then, one by one start melting and leaving their marks on a paper.
Our project is based on freezing the objects mentioned above, among others, and somehow reflect that feeling of freezing in time some of the memories that are relevant in our life. In this work you don't only see the freezing phase, but through the thawing we also explore the idea of bringing to the present time all those memories. In the trace that they leave on the different sheets with the blue pigment that we used, we can also capture in an artistic way the objects and immortalize them on paper.
